DON'T USE EPA-registered surface disinfectants, Coronavirus, and residual efficacy claims
EPA-registered surface disinfectants kill viruses like SARS-CoV-2, commonly called “Coronavirus,” at the time they are used. But if new viral particles are deposited on the surface, a previously applied disinfectant will not protect against these new particles.

The ability to protect surfaces from infectious materials over a period of time beyond the initial treatment is called “residual efficacy.” While there are some EPA-registered products with residual efficacy against bacteria, there are no publicly available EPA-registered products that can be used to inactivate viruses beyond the initial application. There are no EPA-registered products with "residual" or "long-lasting" efficacy claims against viruses.

The EPA publishes "List N: Disinfectants for Use Against SARS-CoV-2," a searchable and sortable list of products for use against SARS-CoV-2. View List N here.

Legend Brands offers two products that are included on List N: Germicidal Cleaner Concentrate and BotaniClean Disinfectant. Both of these products have demonstrated effectiveness against viruses similar to SARS-CoV-2 under the current EPA Emerging Pathogens Standard. They can be found on List N under EPA no. 34810-25 (Botaniclean) and 70385-6 (Germicidal Cleaner Concentrate).
